Week one of the Readiness Institute Summer Discovery set the stage for a transformative journey of discovering passion and purpose. After a kickoff event on Monday, learners split into their cohorts for a blend of on-site activities, off-site trips, and virtual reflection.
Students from five counties and more than 50 high schools across the Commonwealth gathered together to kick off the transformative six-week Summer Discovery program, including 45 learners from Pittsburgh and 32 learners from Central Pennsylvania.

As many of the learners from our Readiness Institute Summer Program know, our connection doesn’t just end after the summer. We continue to stay in touch with learners when they go back for their senior year, after they graduate high school, and beyond. We’ve been checking in with some of the young adults who were a part of program and have now graduated high school and are on to their next steps of adulthood.
The Readiness Institute team welcomed high schoolers from Laurel Highlands, Uniontown, Geibel Catholic, and Brownsville alongside undergraduate students from Penn State Fayette to talk about the power of entrepreneurship in reshaping our world for the better.

In late March, the Readiness Institute team was joined by the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education Initiative (HGHREI) at Penn State to host an informative and inspiring workshop for educators about “Framing Difficult Issues to Support K-12 Classroom Discussion.”
Readiness Institute at Penn State team members were honored to serve as a United States host site for four representatives from the Academy of Civil Service under the President of Turkmenistan.
