Catching up with Summer Program alum Christian McDowell

As many of the learners from our Readiness Institute Summer Program know, our connection doesn’t just end after the summer. We continue to stay in touch with learners when they go back for their senior year, after they graduate high school, and beyond. We’ve been checking in with some of the young adults who were a part of program and have now graduated high school and are on to their next steps of adulthood.

Christian McDowell

Christian McDowellWhere are you now?

I am finishing my sophomore year at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. I am studying professional communication and leadership.

What do you enjoy most about where you are now?

I enjoy campus life, being on the football team, and being a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Prudential Board.

How did the Readiness Institute help you prepare for where you are now?

The Readiness Institute helped prepare me for college by getting me to think about different ways to approach learning, both independently and collaboratively. The focus on community service and leadership also gave me perspective that I use in all aspects of campus life.

What is your favorite memory of the Readiness Institute?

My favorite memory of the Readiness Institute is participating in the off-site and on-site presentations with community and corporate partners. It was great to learn about careers and opportunities straight from leaders. Dr. Aglio’s advice and coaching was also great!

What advice or message do you have for your fellow Readiness Institute alums?

Stay curious and persistent in your studies, as every challenge you overcome is a stepping stone toward your success. Remember, consistency and determination pave the path to excellence.
