The importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in business and communities

Karen Armstrong

Our October Speaker Series webinar focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Karen Armstrong, director of inclusion, diversity, and equity for Penn State Outreach and Online Education, shared the importance of DEI in business and communities.

Viewers of the webinar gained insight into how a diverse workplace and learning environment allows people to understand each other’s perspectives and use differences as a strength, not a hindrance. We see this with the Summer Program at the Readiness Institute where students from diverse backgrounds learn together and develop pathways for success in their own lives.

Learning about and understanding different perspectives has become increasingly important, as we now live in a global society and economy. When people truly feel like they belong in an organization through DEI initiatives, they are comfortable collaborating and fostering creativity that increases the success of the organization.
