As the final week of the Readiness Institute Summer Discovery drew to a close, learners took full advantage of the unique opportunities that the program has offered for the last six weeks.
Summer Discovery 2024
This week, learners focused on innovation for their community readiness skill and explored career pathways in health care.
Week four of Summer Discovery provided some extraordinary moments of learning and exploration. This week’s topics and activities included touring a LEED Platinum–certified building, pitching business ideas, visiting innovative facilities in Pittsburgh, exploring environmental science, and touring advanced manufacturing sites and even delved into mental health literacy.
The third week of Summer Discovery connected learners with opportunities as close as their own neighborhoods and as far away as space. They rolled up their sleeves to work on service projects, welcomed speakers for meaningful conversations and self-reflection, and visited sites that sparked curiosity and inspiration.
Cohorts in Pittsburgh and Central PA returned for week two, eager to delve into new pathways and skills, supported by strong foundations, newfound friendships, and positive momentum from week one.
Week one of the Readiness Institute Summer Discovery set the stage for a transformative journey of discovering passion and purpose. After a kickoff event on Monday, learners split into their cohorts for a blend of on-site activities, off-site trips, and virtual reflection.
Students from five counties and more than 50 high schools across the Commonwealth gathered together to kick off the transformative six-week Summer Discovery program, including 45 learners from Pittsburgh and 32 learners from Central Pennsylvania.
